A Brief Summary of the ArtistHello, my name is Marilou O'Loughlin. I currently live in South Australia with my family but am originally from the United States. I was born and raised in California where I went to school and learned how to be an artist. I have lived in South Australia for nearly four years now. I have always loved art starting out drawing and painting at an early age. I have mostly learned oil painting on my own by practicing painting and studying many different books on the subject. The books that I used will be listed in this website for reference as tools to increase your skills. From the beginning I learned mainly by doing the painting that you gradually improve your skills and get better with every painting you start. 
I have been painting in oil since 1985 and have gradually gone on to be a "plein air painter" or paint outdoors on location. From my experience, I started out painting from photos but find that I do my best work on location looking at the real scene.A little information on my education; I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and went on to acquire a teaching license in 2004. I have been teaching art since 1997. I have taught children to adults. I really enjoy painting and capturing that special moment in time on canvas in addition to helping other people too. Back in 1985 when I first started to learn about how to paint with oils all I had was a book about it, I didn't have anyone to help me learn, I just had to do it on my own. So I thought if I could help other people who need more than just a book or be in a crowded art classroom to learn then GREAT! This site is for anyone who is interested in learning about oil painting. It is basically an information site and I will be showing step-by-step procedures on how to learn this fun and exciting medium.
